TBT- The Detroit Visitors Bureau on TV using my registered trademark “Welcome To The D
at the 20 second mark- the screen goes fully to “Welcome To The D”- In my opinion, this implies that they own this slogan . This is after my media company- Denha Media sent Renee Monforton- at the Detroit Visitors Bureau an email on Feb 22,2010 with “Welcome To The D” explaining that I’m a musician and huge promoter of Detroit. Renee Monforton responded with “I sent it to our VP of Marketing…but for now it wouldn’t have a application for us. If there is ever an opportunity that we would use if for any of our events , I will let you know. I like it.” They proceeded to use my trademark for the World Series, USA Volleyball Tournament, Quick Lane Bowl, and had a nationally known Detroit celebrity record a short commercial with my slogan on it. Keep in mind the Bureau, allegedly, is funded by huge corporations (which makes sense because according to Crain’s Detroit Business- their Executive is one of the top paid of the “non-profit” organizations in Southeast MI. I did not want to go to court, just work together with them (never been in court in my life and have no interest). I even had a meeting with the two top assistants to the Mayor of Detroit- Mike Duggan to see if we they could help to resolve the issue. The apologized that they couldn’t intervene with the Visitors bureau. Review the video and these photos and make your own decision on whether or not you think this constitutes trademark infringement. My suggestion to any musician-DO NOT SUBMIT YOUR IDEAS TO ANY COMPANY WITHOUT AN ATTORNEY DOING IT FOR YOU OR YOU WILL BE UNPROTECTED
