The story behind the song This is a true story. After I presented my intellectual property to a major sports organization and visitors bureau for potential licensing, they turned around and used it—without permission—to promote one of the world’s biggest sporting events. No compensation. No credit. My attorney fought the case all the way up to the U.S. Supreme Court. Not long after, the same infringers had a newspaper release and ribbon cutting honoring one of the judges who handled the appeal. The billionaire boys club protects its own. Courts can be swayed by favors and backroom deals. Sometimes you’re up against impossible odds, but you still have to stand up for what’s right. That’s what this song is about.
